Catalytic Gas Cleaning

ELEX has been building catalytic gas purification systems since 1988. This enables NOx, dioxin, furan, hydrocarbons and ammonia to be reduced in order to meet the world's most stringent environmental requirements.

Now let's take a closer look at NOx reduction. In order for the nitrogen oxides contained in the flue gas to be converted into nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O) on the catalyst surface, ammonia (NH3) is injected into the flue gas stream.

The following chemical reactions take place in the catalytic converter:

  • NO + NO2 + 2 NH3 —> 2 N2 + 3 H2O
  • 4 NO + 4 NH3 + O2 —> 4 N2 + 6 H2O
  • 6 NO2 + 8 NH2 —> 7 N2 + 12 H2O

This process is known as the "SCR process". The great advantage of catalytic denitrification is that in addition to the conversion of nitrogen oxides, dioxins and furans are also broken down in the pores of the catalyst. The operating temperature must be considered. Because if the minimum or maximum temperature is exceeded, there is a risk that the catalysts will become inactive.


Durch den Umbau von bestehenden Anlagen können mit relativ geringem Aufwand Kapazitätserhöhungen bewältigt oder neue Grenzwerte eingehalten werden. Umbauten erfordern ein hohes Mass an Erfahrung, da teilweise während des laufenden Betriebes und/oder in beengten Platzverhältnissen gearbeitet werden muss. Eine lange Liste von Referenzen ist der Beweis für die hohe Qualität unserer Umbaukonzepte. Dabei ist es uns wichtig, nur alles wirklich Notwendige zu ersetzen und bestehende Komponenten bestmöglich weiter zu verwenden.

Mögliche Varianten sind:

– Anbau von zusätzlichen Feldern
– Umrüstung von Fremdfiltern auf ELEX-Standard
– Erweiterung der Niederschlagsfläche durch Verlängerung der Feldlänge
– Einsatz alternativer HS-Technologien (SMPS oder Dreiphasen-Aggregate)
– Umrüstung von Elektrofiltern auf Hybridfilter
– Umrüstung von Elektrofiltern auf Gewebefilter
